A resolution honoring Johnny Outlaw was unanimously adopted at Tuesday’s meeting of Kershaw County Council (KCC).

Chairman Gene Wise read the nomination, which was submitted by Councilman C.R. Miles. The resolution stated:

"In an effort to give back to his community [Outlaw] chose to reclaim the Antioch School and convert it to the Antioch Community Center and Flea Market. Whereas the community center is located off Highway 34 between the Antioch Fire Department and a midway point between Camden and Bishopville, the Antioch Community Center features a flea market on the weekends as well as musical entertainment. The community center also provides a location for birthday parties, family reunions and wedding receptions … therefore it is hereby resolved by Kershaw County Council in a meeting duly assembled that Kershaw County Council recognizes and honors Mr. Johnny Outlaw for his service to Kershaw County and its citizens."

Outlaw received his award and added his invitation to KCC and the public, "I’d like to invite all of you to come on out, too."

County Administrator Vic Carpenter encouraged all who have not yet visited the community center to "go see the beautiful facility Mr. Outlaw has created."
