‘Celebration of Life’ ride and festival to honor Peake

Pine Grove Fire Department (PGFD) and Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) Firefighting Explorer program will host a “Celebration of Life River Ride and Festival” in memory DeWitt Peake on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the PGDF, 833 Pine Grove Road in Lugoff.

According to a joint press release, Peake was a 35-year veteran of the PGDF and very active in Pine Grove Baptist Church and the community who was struck by an impaired drive on Jan. 11. He left behind a wife, five children and three grandchildren. Organizers said the event is a celebration of his life by members of the Lugoff community and other from across the state. All proceeds will benefit the PGFD and LFD Firefighting Explorer program.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., but there is no registration fee for the ride or event. Donations are welcome, however. The family-oriented event will feature kids’ rides, bounce houses, vendor tables, games, singing groups, and fire truck and emergency vehicle displays.

Free food will also be served around noon when the ride concludes. The ride will include a trip around Lake Wateree with two stops, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and concluding back at the PGFD for lunch. Riders may ride motorcycles are vehicles for the memorial ride; riding is not required to attend the event.

The event is free and is being made possible by donations from local fire departments, businesses and community members.
