This is an issue I have been going to write about and, for me, it is long overdue.

Since living in South Carolina, I have had two surgeries at Baptist hospital in Columbia, one at Tuomey in Sumter and three at KershawHealth.

By far, the best care I received was at KershawHealth. The staff was caring, compassionate and very professional. They truly cared; I felt loved.

As for the oncology department, the staff was always ready to meet my needs whether it was to dry a tear or share a hug. Sally gives wonderful hugs. Nancy cares for each patient with love and compassion. Sally and Nancy also volunteer for “Chemo with Style” one evening every other month. “Chemo with Style” is a program put on by TriCounty Hospice to support those going through the cancer walk. A shoulder to lean on is a wonderful thing. Susan Gainey coordinates this program and does a wonderful job.

Ronnie, she is one special lady. She checks patients in and out of the oncology department. Her big smile is such a comfort. Smiles are free, and she knows how to give them, especially in a time of need. In my case, she gave me a watch (which I treasure) after my surgery.

A big thanks to all the volunteers that transport the patients. Thanks, Maryellen.

A big thanks goes out to Doctor Gill, Doctor Summers (his nurse) and Doctor Jackson. I am a blessed lady to have had caring doctors that provided the necessary surgeries.

Thank you, KershawHealth. I will add, “Bigger doesn’t always mean better!”
