In these difficult economic times, many counties -- Kershaw County included -- find it difficult to fund necessary items for law enforcement and public safety employees. Fortunately citizens frequently come to the rescue and donate their hard earned money to help meet the equipment needs of our law officers.

For the second year in a row, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Brown have donated $1,000 to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation. Mr. Brown is a disabled U.S. Army veteran and lives on a fixed income with his German born wife, Eleonore. They budget every year so that they are able to do this for the sheriff’s office.

"I am extremely grateful and very humbled by their sacrifice and generosity," Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said in a recent press release. "Any donation we receive is welcome, but knowing that these folks sacrificed so much to give back to their community makes this gift even more special."

Joe Dorton, chairman of the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation was also very appreciative of this donation.

"Soliciting funds is never pleasant, but in the case of the Brown’s, they come in on their own and give without ever being asked," Dorton said.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.
