L-E in control in Region 4-4A

It has all the makings of a special season for the sixth-ranked Lugoff-Elgin volleyball team.
The Lady Demons (19-5) opened the season by finishing second in the Carolina Forest Pre-Season Invitational, won the Silver division at the Eastside tournament in mid-September and then, closed out last month by finishing third in the Road to the Championship tournament held at White Knoll.
In the matches that matter, Jessica Timmons’ charges are off to a perfect 5-0 start in Region 4-4A play after having defeated Richland Northeast and Ridge View in straight sets before traveling to Blythewood. The Lady Demons were up to the challenge and came out with a five-set victory over the Bengals to take ownership of first place in conference play.
In that match, L-E was paced by India Tucker with 11 kills with Allison Hyman adding another 10 kills. Kensley Jordan led the defensive effort with 22 digs while Sarah Beth Messer added 18 digs in helping to hold the Bengals at bay.
If all holds to form, the Oct. 15 pairing with Blythewood, to be played inside the Demons Den, may well be for the Region 4-4A title.
JV Jam benefits “Dig Pink”: On Saturday, Lugoff-Elgin will host its annual JV Jam Dig Pink Tournament. The event will begin at 8 a.m.  and will feature teams from throughout the state and will also include Kershaw County middle school teams, as well.
