Camden punched its ticket into the AAA state girls’ tennis tournament with a 4-2 victory over Dreher in a conference match played last Thursday at the CHS courts.
The win over the Blue Devils ensured that the Lady Bulldogs will finish in the top four of Region 4-AAA.  The state tournament opens on Thursday, Aug. 31.
Senior number one singles player Madison Hudson gave the hostesses a strong start with her quick 6-2, 6-2 win over Mary Louise Boylston. Kelsey Williams followed by upending Grace Striclin in second singles for the Lady Bulldogs.
“Kelsey and Madison set the tone, once again,” said Camden head coach Stephen Sutusky. “That’s what we ask them to do on a regular basis and they answered the call.”
Camden’s second doubles duo of Serena Hayes and Miranda Brown defeated Wells Carter and Evie Dillard, 7-5, 6-2, to avenge an earlier season loss to the Blue Devils at second doubles. CHS senior Maggie Wehunt then pushed her record to 7-3 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Miranda McDermott on the fourth singles court.
Camden was slated to host River Bluff on Monday afternoon before Chapin comes to town for a match next Tuesday. Camden, River Bluff and Chapin are the three teams vying for the second through fourth slots --- behind league-leading A.C. Flora --- in the Region 4-AAA race.
Thursday, CHS hosts Hartville in a non-region pairing.
