Kershaw County School District (KCSD) families that temporarily have been affected by the federal government furloughs may apply for free/reduced meal benefits for their children.

KCSD officials said that these benefits will be granted for a temporary period under special circumstances. If families have already filled out applications, they should contact KCSD Nutrition and Food Services Coordinator Misha Lawyer. Persons who have not filled out applications yet this school year should do that first and then contact Lawyer.

Applications are available on the school district’s website under the Parents tab and then look for school menus. Lawyer can be contacted at or by calling 432-8416.

Once the government shutdown is over, the meal status of the family will revert back to what it was previously.
