Tai Chi is a physical exercise and martial art that has been practiced in China for thousands of years.

The free-flowing relaxation exercise consists of a special arrangement of movements known as the form. The form is many separate movements strung together to produce one continuous sequence lasting for several minutes. Within the form, there are five fundamental principles -- relaxation, Yin/Yang, turn waist, keep body upright and beautiful lady hands.

Combining the forms and principles of Tai Chi will help create overall good health. The word TAI means "great," while CHI is translated as "vital energy or powerful life force."

Relax and enjoy good health with the six-week course at the Rec Department building. Classes will begin on Nov. 4

Call the Rec. Department office for more information.

Trick-or-Treat trail

Kershaw County Parks and Recreation, Kimbrell’s Furniture and SAFE Federal Credit Union are sponsoring the Annual Trick-or-Treat Trail and invite organizations to participate. The event will be held on Thursday, October 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rhame City Arena, 517 Broad Street. Local businesses, agencies, and organizations are encouraged to participate by dressing in costume, decorating Halloween booths, and distributing treats, prizes and candy to the costumed children who participate.

The Annual Trick-or-Treat trail is designed to provide children (ages 12 and under) with a safe and friendly atmosphere for their Halloween evening. Last year, approximately 1,000 children participated in this event. Understandably, this can be a costly occasion so groups are welcome to partner with one another to help share in the expense of giving goodies to such a large crowd.

Set up for the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 pm on day of event. Please bring sufficient candy and/or prizes for your booth.

A table and two chairs will be provided for the booths, if you require additional materials please bring those with you. Open flames and lit candles are not allowed at the booths.

Participants are responsible for the set up, break down and cleaning up of the area. Participants are also asked to please make sure that all literature and handouts are age and event appropriate.

There will be judging for the Best "Spooktacular" booth contest.

If you are unable to participate this year, please consider a prize or candy donation. Call 425-6009 and we will arrange to have your donation picked-up.

If you have any questions, please call or email Amy Peebles at 425-6009 or
