Gilbert and Crocker united in marriage

Neely Catherine Gilbert and John Thomas Crocker were united in marriage on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at five o'clock in the afternoon. The outdoor ceremony was held behind DeBordieu Clubhouse overlooking the marsh in Georgetown, SC. It was officiated by the Reverend Martha Hedgepeth of Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte, NC. A reception hosted by the bride’s parents followed the ceremony at the DeBordieu Clubhouse.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Munro Gilbert of Charlotte, NC. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Martha Neely, the late Mr. Pinckney Maxwell Neely, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gawley Gilbert, all of Statesville, NC. Neely is a graduate of Charlotte Country Day School and received a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Clemson University. She is the media relations and communications associate at NAFC in Charleston, South Carolina.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Eugene Crocker, Jr. of Chapin, SC. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Allen Nasworthy of Easley, SC, and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Eugene Crocker of Greer, SC. John is a graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Management from Clemson University. He is an integrated digital environment manager with SAIC in Charleston, South Carolina.

Neely was escorted by her father and presented in marriage by her parents. Morgan Hancock Liles of Nashville, TN served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Ann Cornick and Jean Marie Hermack of Charlotte, NC; Caroline Long of Charleston, SC; and Caroline Wickliffe Pike of Greenville, SC.

John’s father served as best man. Groomsmen included the bride's brother, James Grant Gilbert, of New York, NY; Joseph Richard Burton and David Wayne Kirby of Greenville, SC; and Thomas Roddey Jordan of Charleston, SC. Ushers were Tyler Lee Riggins of Charlotte, NC and John Patrick Becker of Richmond, VA.

Serving as flower girl was Clara Elizabeth Williams, niece of the groom. Long time family friend, Denise Smith O’Leary read the scripture during the ceremony. Guests were welcomed by Lila Turner Duke, Spencer Lea Kirkman, Smith Connor O’Leary, and Christopher McAllister O’Leary. Wedding music was provided by harpist Rebecca Nissen and The Plantation Singers, an acapella gospel group.

Friends of the bride’s parents hosted an engagement party honoring Neely and John in June at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Beaver in Charlotte, NC. A party was hosted in Greenville, SC by some of Neely and John’s friends from college in late August. Neely and her bridesmaids were honored at a luncheon on Friday in DeBordieu hosted by Debbie Whelchel, Liz Joye, and Robin Riggins, Godmother of the bride.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents on the eve of the wedding at the DeBordieu Beach Club followed by an after-rehearsal celebration at the DeBordieu Pavilion given by family and friends.

Following a honeymoon in Barbados, the couple will reside in Charleston, SC.
