Actress Catherine Granger plays Martha Washington in AmericaFilm’s tentatively titled America. Several scenes of this film were shot at Historic Camden site during Field Days. Here, Granger looks out a window of the Kershaw-Cornwallis House.

“Hollywood has come to town,” Joanna Craig, director of historic Camden Revolutionary War site, recently announced.

AmericaFilm out of Los Angeles, Calif., and a crew of 45 to 50 have been at Historic Camden since Friday and will be there until Tuesday filming footage for a forthcoming movie with the working title of America to be released summer 2014.

According to Craig, one of the themes of the docufilm speculates the evolution of America had American Commander George Washington been killed in battle during the Revolution instead of becoming the country’s first president. Historic Camden’s Field Days event and the site in general were chosen by AmericaFilm to represent, in part, that time frame of the movie.

Historic Camden is often filmed for movies, commercials, music DVDs and other media, and the museum always stresses that visiting crews shop locally whenever possible. AmericaFilm has been given Historic Camden’s list of local services and amenities and the crew has confirmed they will use it.

Friday’s shoots included an interior scene featuring Martha Washington looking out the window of the Kershaw House; separate footage of Commander Washington and his white horse (a local horse owned by Becky Stokes), and a horse-drawn wagon (also locally supplied).

At Field Days, the crew filmed the military and civilian campsites and 18th century demonstrators. An important objective was to get quality battle-related shots. Also, a stunt horse and stunt rider will be used to get footage of Washington falling from his horse at today’s shoot.
