The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies arrested 17 people on various charges in the last days of October as a result of a 4-month-long drug distribution investigation.

Sixteen of those arrested were wanted on drug distribution charges.

According to a KCSO press release, 15 deputies met at headquarters around 4 a.m. Oct. 30 to be briefed on the operation. Teams were assigned to particular defendants wanted for distributing a variety of drugs, including cocaine, crack cocaine, controlled pills and marijuana. Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said the goal of such operations is to “make it difficult” for people who sell drugs in Kershaw County. Matthews said the KCSO will continue to target drug dealers and respond to citizens complaints of suspected drug activity.

“Drug abusers are the ones doing the burglaries, car break-ins and are most likely involved in assaults. If we can keep the pressure on those who sell drugs, we hope to reduce drug availability and the crimes associated with drug abuse,” Matthews said.

• Robbie Miquel Stokes, 32 -- distribution of cocaine (second offense) and three counts of unlawful neglect of a child
