A big dance challenge “brought the house down” in Camden High School’s gymnasium Saturday as Camden Mayor Tony Scully and former Camden City Councilman Ned Towell went toe-to-toe during Family Life Outreach’s annual fall step showcase.

The packed house cheered as the two performed the Twist and other dances.

Scully and Towell tied, according to organizers. Towell was assisted by former Rho Chi Kobra captain Shakeem Coleman; Jalin Lonely assisted Scully with his moves.

Teams from all over South Carolina came to “show their stuff,” organizers said, as they prepare for the upcoming step season. Participants included the Awesome Cub Step Team, IMS Stepazz, E.L. Wright, Southern Dynasty, The Royal Diamonds and the Kershaw County Diamonds. Organizers said all the teams put on a great show.

Saturday’s showcase also featured a performance by the Kappa League and a reunion of original Kershaw County step dance stars Rho Chi Kobra. Other performances included The Devine Vessels, Chosen Generation and The Patterson Dance group who also “brought the house down,” organizers said.
