Derrick Lamont Johnson Sr.

Mr. Derrick Lamont Johnson, Sr. known to many as "Pickle Boy" and to others as "DJ" was born in Kershaw County, on January 8, 1968. He is the son of Pearl J. Dawson of Rembert, SC. Being the true military veteran that he was and having fought such a great battle God saw fit to call him home on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11, 2013.

Derrick accepted Christ in his life at an early age by joining St. Stephens Baptist Church. He was educated in Kershaw County Schools. He graduated from Camden High School as the Class of 1986. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and devoted his life to saving our country. Derrick has received a number of awards for his dedicated service while in the military. He completed 3 tours of duty. He was employed with the City of Austin and American Airlines. His character and personality were visible through his smile and connecting dimple. Derrick never met a person he couldn’t help.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Willie B. Johnson; his grandmother Elsie Holloman Johnson, his uncle, Willie Johnson Jr., and his aunt, Lottie Johnson.

Those left to cherish his fond memory and celebrating his home going are his fiancé, Cheryl A. Taylor of Austin, Texas; his two daughters LaToya LaTrice Johnson of Detroit, Michigan and Christina J. Moten-Johnson of Austin; his son, Derrick Lamont Johnson Jr. of Portland, Oregon; his mother, Pearl Dawson; his step-father David Dawson; one sister, Terrie Dawson (Brandon) Oliver of Rembert, SC; his uncle, Jimmy Johnson of Rembert, SC; his aunt Willene Johnson of Rembert; three nephews, Terrez, Tyreek, and Tyreon Durant of Rembert, SC; and one niece Summer Rayne Oliver of Rembert, SC; his cousins Robin Johnson of Columbia, SC, Charlotte Johnson of Rembert, SC, Alicia English of Rembert, SC and Lillian Johnson whom he was raised in the home with. Two special life-long friends Johnny Stover of Rembert, SC and Earnest Perkins of Austin, Texas; and a host of great aunts, other relatives and friends.
