Fresh off her having signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play golf at Auburn University, Kelli Murphy added another tournament title to her long list of accolades last weekend.
The Lugoff-Elgin senior fired a 7-under par 65 on Saturday and followed with a 69 on Sunday for a 10-under par to capture the South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s Players Championship in the girls’ 14-18-year-old division. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was played over the Hartsville Country Club.
Murphy’s blazing start on Saturday included her recording nine birdies to go along with seven pars and a pair of bogeys. On Sunday, Murphy had six birdies, nine pars and three bogeys to cruise to the seven-stroke victory after carding a 65-69—134 total.
Finishing second in the event was Carly Burkhardt of Greenville who finished seven shots behind with a 74-67—141.
On Oct. 28-29, Murphy represented Lugoff-Elgin in the South Carolina High School League Girls’ 4A state championship. Murphy won the AAAA Lower State individual title while finishing tied for third in the state championship with a 69-76---145, earning the Elgin resident AAAA All-State honors.
Murphy has little time to rest between tournament stops and she will compete in the three-day George Holliday Memorial in Myrtle Beach which starts Thanksgiving Day.
