Kershaw County Council may “reactivate” its Recreation Advisory Committee on Tuesday when it considers amending the ordinance that originally created the committee.

The proposed amendment will allow community members who are coaches to also serve on the committee. Currently, coaches are not allowed to serve, according to County Administrator Vic Carpenter.

Carpenter said the amendment seeks to “reactivate the committee” and also provide it “new life and greater diversity.” He also said the amendment is an effort between Kershaw County Parks Director Joe Eason and Kershaw County Council Vice Chairman Stephen Smoak to revitalize the committee.

In new business, council will also review:

•a resolution accepting the report of the Safe Community Commission;

•a resolution honoring Barbara Swindall;

•an appointment to the Planning and Zoning Commission;

•an appointment to the Recreation Advisory Commission;

•an airport lease agreement extension;

•council’s December 24 meeting; and

•discussion regarding retiree benefits.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at the Kershaw County Government Center, 515 Walnut St., in Camden, and is open to the public.
