Several prominent businessmen chartered the Camden Lions Club in 1946. Their first project involved raising funds to purchase a new iron lung for the local hospital to treat polio victims.

Since that time, more than 500 men and women have been a part of the Lions Club in Camden. They have raised money to help people with proper eye and hearing care in Kershaw County.

In addition, the Lions Club has collected glasses and hearing aids that have been sent to needy people in countries around the world.

Today, the Camden Lions Club is involved in numerous projects to provide the funds needed for eye exams, glasses, hearing exams and hearing aids for people who cannot afford these services. Club members still collect glasses for people overseas. More than 400 pairs of glasses were sent to a local church engaged in missionary work this past year.

The Camden Lions Club is still a viable organization dedicated to serving the local community with vision and eye care needs.

For further information about the Camden Lions Club, contact President Dan Lovatt, Secretary Phil McGee or any of the other 20 Camden Lions.
