Fire and smoke can be seen Monday morning from I-20, coming from a home on Mt. Olive Road. The fire destroyed the home and a nearby parked car. A woman living there suffered only a few minor burns.

A home on Mt. Olive Road, Camden, burned down causing a car parked near the home to also catch on fire Monday morning. The fire could be seen by motorists traveling on I-20.

A call came in around 7:30 a.m. about the fire, which Deputy Fire Marshall Keith Ray said started in the kitchen. It took 30 firefighters until about 10 a.m. to get the fire under control, Ray said. He said the house and car were a complete loss. Firefighters from the Charlotte-Thompson, Antioch, Camden and Blaney fire departments in Kershaw County responded to the fire, along with departments from Sumter and Lee counties.

An 80-year-old woman lived alone in the home; she suffered a few minor burns, Ray said. He said the American Red Cross offered assistance, but that the woman’s family said that they would be able to take care of her.
