Former Lugoff-Elgin football standout Jared Singleton was one of seven Wofford College student-athletes to be named to All-Southern Conference football teams.
Singleton, a 6-foot-2, 309-pound senior center and finance major, earned first team All-SoCon honors from the league’s football coaches and was a second team choice in voting performed by the conference’s media members.
A 2009 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, Singleton started 27 consecutive games at center over the past three seasons for the Terriers. He led the team with 175 knockdown blocks, including 35 at Furman which were the second-most in school history. He previously earned All-SoCon honors in 2011 and 2012.
Coming into this season, Singleton was named Preseason All-America third team by The Sports Network. Following the 2012 campaign, he was selected All-Southern Conference first team by the coaches and second team by the media. He was also a fourth team All-America honoree from Phil Steele.
A four-time all-region selection for Scott Jones’ Demons at L-E High School, Singleton was the starting center for the South Carolina team in the 2008 Shrine Bowl game. In his senior season at L-E, the four-year Chronicle-Independent All-Area Coaches’ Team honoree was named to the AAA All-State squad after having helped the Demons to a 9-4 record.
