Camden splits with Lakewood

Avenging their only loss in three starts this season, the Camden boys basketball team handed host Lakewood a 52-42 defeat on Wednesday night in Sumter.
The visiting Bulldogs struggled inthe first quarter as they trailed, 9-4, before turning the tables on the Gators in the second stanza which ended with CHS carrying a 15-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Camden went on a 20-13 run in the third quarter to go on top, 35-28, heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Senior center Delton Bradford led Ron McKie’s squad with 13 points to lead a trio of Bulldogs in double figures. Josh Sumpter added 12 points while Alexx Cooke was next with 11.
CHS sophomore Tyrone Kelly scored a career-high seven points in coming off the bench.
Lady Bulldogs lose first game: After having opened the season with back-to-back wins, the Camden girls fell to Lakewood, 51-47 on Wednesday.
The win gave the Lady Gators a split of their season series with Natalie Jeffcoat’s troops which won the season opener with Lakewood eight nights earlier in Camden.
