Springdale traffic area poses numerous hazards

In addition to Steve Parrott's letter of Dec. 22th I would like to add my concerns about the dangerous intersection at U.S. 1 and Springdale Drive and the numerous accidents there. I am also a resident of the Springdale area and see logging trucks as a big problem, but so are other vehicles. The 45-mph speed limit approaching the final curve at Wal-Mart needs to be lowered to 35 mph. Drivers go zooming in at 50 to 60 mph. Not only is this a busy intersection but there is a lot of traffic entering and exiting the numerous business driveways in the area.

In addition, when you are driving east on Springdale in the right lane there is no "right turn only" sign. I have seen drivers trying to switch lanes at the last minute in heavy traffic. I went through proper channels to express my concerns to the highway department and was informed that they don't see a problem with the speed limit. I think there is! I wonder if they have done a study, and if they have, I would like to know the record of accidents that have occurred there.
