As they have for the past five years, Bob and Cheryl Morgan are visiting family in Lugoff for the Christmas holidays from Farmington, N.H. And, as they have for the past five years, the Morgans have brought baked goods and other food to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) as a token of their appreciation for the deputies, many of whom have to work on Christmas Day.

“My father was a police chief and a Massachusetts state trooper and I know what it is like for law enforcement officers to be away from their families during Christmas,” Bob Morgan said. “My wife and I just want to give back to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, even though we don’t live here.”

Not only do the Morgans give back to the KCSO, Sheriff Jim Matthews said, but they also provide a turkey and all the fixings, clothing and toys to about 15 or so needy Kershaw County families, all at their own expense. This year the Morgans are extending their generosity to Kershaw County firefighters, Matthews said.

“This kind of unsolicited generosity is very refreshing and renews one’s faith in mankind,” Matthews said. “I am reminded of how blessed many of us are and am encouraged to be more generous, as well. My thanks go out to the Morgans for their kindness to our deputies and to the less fortunate in our community.”
