The Hospital Auxiliary of KershawHealth began its annual Lights of Love fundraising project on November 15. The program will continue through Jan. 1, 2014.

Through donations to the program, area residents are able to acknowledge or honor those who have been significant in their lives. Acknowledgement cards are sent to those being honored or to the family of those being remembered. The names of the honorees are written in a special book which remains on display in the main lobby of KershawHealth throughout the holiday season. Additionally, the name of each honoree is written on an ornament and displayed on the Lights of Love tree in the lobby. Ornaments may be picked up in the gift shop during the month of January.

Two live cedar trees, planted on the hospital grounds especially for the Lights of Love celebration, will be lit throughout the season to honor those in whose names tax-deductible donations have been made.

"The Lights of Love program offers members of the community a thoughtful alternative to Christmas cards and gifts," said Mary Clark, Auxiliary president. "We are delighted to offer area residents this opportunity to recognize those who have been important in their lives while helping students who are preparing for careers in healthcare. Many of our scholarship recipients return to us as young professionals. It’s very gratifying."

Proceeds from previous Lights of Love campaigns have provided funds for need-based scholarships for area students who are pursuing careers in healthcare-related fields. Funds from this and all Auxiliary projects benefit hospital departments such as Oncology, Outpatient Surgery, Pediatrics, ICU, Radiology, Karesh Long-Term Care and Emergency Services. Additionally, proceeds make it possible for the Auxiliary to make substantial contributions toward vital equipment such as a fetal monitor and a lithotripter.

Registration forms for Lights of Love are available at the KershawHealth information desk. Printable forms are also available from the Auxiliary website at www.auxilia ryofkershawhealth.org.
