A Leesville man died in Kershaw County when he lost control of his motorcycle Saturday evening.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers identified the victim as Randall Scott Hickman, 40, of Leesville. Fellers said the accident took place on Old Stagecoach Road near Mt. Zion Road around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

“He was traveling toward Camden on Old Stagecoach Road when he ran off the side of the road and lost control,” Fellers said.

S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said Hickman was driving a 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Jones said Hickman was ejected from the motorcycle when he crashed.

It was unclear at first whether or not Hickman was wearing a helmet. Fellers reported Hickman was not wearing a helmet, based on not seeing one at the scene when he arrived. Jones, however, reported Hickman was wearing a helmet when he crashed.

After being contacted about the discrepancy, Fellers checked with others who arrived on the scene before him and determined that no one saw a helmet on or near the victim.
