Letter: IRS offers one-time special filing relief program for small charities

In a community such as ours, odds are that the Chronicle-Independent’s readers are associated with one or more small nonprofit organizations. We would like to get the word out that some small nonprofit organizations are at risk of losing their tax-exempt status because they have not filed required returns with the Internal Revenue Service for 2007, 2008 and 2009. It is important that they act now to preserve their status by filing returns by Oct. 15, 2010.
