During its annual Christmas Party on Dec. 7, the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) named its “Firefighters of the Year” for 2013. This year’s recipients are Engineer Eric Champe, Career Firefighter of the Year; Thomas Ray, Volunteer Firefighter of the Year; and Hunter Brazell, Explorer Firefighter of the Year.

LFD firefighters voted on their peers from submissions made from all LFD staff. Champe and Ray each received a trophy and check for $100 sponsored by Lugoff Larry Jeffers American Legion Post No. 195. Brazell received a trophy as well.

“Because our yearly awards are voted on by the peers within the department, these recipients can be very encouraged and motivated that his fellow members have that much confidence in him for the recognition of outstanding performance throughout the year,” LFD Chief Dennis Ray said. “I join those members in congratulating our winners this year and extend my pride for their top-notch performance in the department. I also want to thank the American Legion Post 195 for sponsoring our winners again this year and for their support of our department and staff throughout the year.”
