S.C. Horsemen's Council Expo returns to SCEP Saturday

The annual South Carolina Horsemen’s Council (SCHC) Expo will be held at the South Carolina Equine Park in Camden on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The one-day event will begin at 11 a.m. with the gates opening at 10 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Members of the SCHSC will be admitted free of charge.
The purpose of the show is introduce all guests to the joy which horses provide while bringing horses and people together through common interests and education.
The day will include presentations by the Carolina Stars Trick riders, carriage horse demonstrations, Tomas Gimenez will perform a large animal technical rescue, horse training tips from noted horse trainer Jerry King who will perform a cattle sorting and cattle dog demonstration.
Rolex Three-Day event rider Lellie Ward will demonstrate rider awareness while there will also be a performance by knights and horses from Medieval Times show in Myrtle Beach.
At 2:20 p.m., South Carolina’s Horse Person of the Year will be announced. The S.C. Horsemen’s Council meeting will close the day at 4:30 p.m.
In the health pavilion, Gill Goodin will demonstrate barefoot trimming while Gary Biggerstaff will be there to talk about equine dentistry. Dr. Niki Whitley will talk about the worming of horses while Dr. Dee Whelchel and Eddie O’Cain will be on hand to present talks regarding infectious diseases and barn fire prevention, respectively. All guest speakers will be available for one-on-one discussions and questions from guests.
The day will also include more than 30 vendors and their wares, door prizes and tack sale/silent auction.
On Rescue Road, guests will learn about rescue horses and other organizations including Dream Equine Therapy Center, South Carolina Awareness and Rescue for Equines, Second Chances Thoroughbreds, hosted by Camden’s William Cox and LEARN Horse Rescue.
At Breed Blvd., guests can see different breeds --- Galiceno Horses, Mules, Off the Track Thoroughbreds, hosted by Camden’s William Cox, Friesianss and Palmetto Arabians --- of horses. There will also be a raffle in which guests can purchase a ticket to win a Marsh Tacky gelding, the South Carolina state horse.
No dogs are allowed at the show for the safety of the horses.
S.C. Equine Park is located along Cleveland School Rd. (located off of Black River Rd.) in Camden.
