Funeral services honoring the life of Thomas Alvin Powell, US Air Force, (Ret.) 77, of Camden, will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at11:00 AM at New Hope Church. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC, with full military honors. Reverend Lyndon Hill will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mr. Powell’s memory to New Hope Church, 9105 Liberty Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020.

Mr. Powell died Friday, February 7, 2014. Born in Cary, NC, he was the son of the late Ernest Bergen and Gassie Williams Powell. A 20 year US Air Force Veteran having served in Vietnam, Mr. Powell was retired from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Jamil Shrine Club, Kershaw Lodge #29 and James Leroy Belk Post #17.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Jenny Truesdel Powell; son; Thomas Eric Powell (Janet) of North Augusta; daughter: of Lisa Powell Davis (Paul) of Camden; grandchildren, Catherine Powell, Brent Coffman and Matthew Davis; sisters, Azalee Swindle, Dorothy Bingham, Kathleen Young and Jan Morris; sister-in-law, Nancy Powell. He was predeceased by a brother, E. B. Powell and sisters, Geneva Powell, Ernestine Walters, Joann Goodman and Ellie Marie Powell.
