Stover Middle School (SMS) art students recently added a few artistic touches to their learning environment.

The corridors at SMS are now adorned with wooden tigers painted with different school related themes.

Last year’s eighth graders also offered a few touches before leaving by creating silhouette gesture figures.

All these artistic endeavwere made possible by a Sparkleberry Grant received by Cassandra Mickle, SMS art teacher.

The grant helped sixth and seventh grade art classes to create more than forty beautifully designed tigers. Mickle’s goal is to empower students to take charge of their learning environment and to appreciate their own art.

"We want our school to morph into an environment that reflects student ownership and to show that the students are excited about their learning space," Mickle said. Parents and community members are welcome to stop by and tour the school to see the new installment of artwork by students.

Please be on the lookout for a display of SMS student’s artwork in the Kershaw County government building located on Walnut Street in Camden.

SMS sincerely thanks the Sparkleberry Grant committee for its generous donation.
