Aberdeen Catery is offering a $500 scholarship for Kershaw County School District high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in culinary arts.

Jack Brantley, owner of the Camden-based catery, says the scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to enter a post-secondary institution in the fall and eventually work in catering or food preparation in the restaurant industry.

Brantley founded Aberdeen Catery in 1983. Since then it has steadily grown into a regional business which caters formal and social occasions both large and small throughout the Carolinas and other areas around the Southeast.

Brantley says he established the scholarship “to give something meaningful back to the Kershaw County community which has been so supportive our business over the years. I also want to assist young people who share a love for catering and food preparation like I do.”

Applications for the scholarship are available in the guidance office at each of the county’s high schools and ATEC, which offers a culinary arts program. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 11. Applicants must be a graduating senior enrolled in the Kershaw County School District. The scholarship recipient will be announced prior to high school graduation on May 30.
