State wrestling qualifiers begin tonight

CHS FRESHMAN LINDSAY PIERCE will be competing for a spot in next weekend’s state finals on his home mat as Camden High hosts the AAA Upper State wrestling championships which begin tonight inside The Dog Pound.

For the second time in as many years, Camden High School will host the AAA Upper State Individual Wrestling Championships.
The tournament hosts and their state qualifiers will be part of the event.
The two-day tournament will begin at 5 p.m.tonight inside the Dog Pound with first round matches.  At 7 p.m., the quarterfinals are scheduled to begin.
Wrestling will resume on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the consolation matches. The second round consolation matches are slated to take to the mat at 9:30 a.m. with the semifinals slated to kick off at 10:30 a.m. Tournament organizers hope to start the finals at 2 p.m.
Admission is $6 per day.
While the CHS wrestlers will be at home this weekend, Lugoff-Elgin will head to the 4A Upper State Individual Wrestling Championships to be held on Friday and Saturday at Laurens High School. North Central will travel to the AA Upper State Individual Wrestling Championships to be held on Friday and Saturday at Liberty High School.
In each instance, the top four finishers from all 14 classes will punch their ticket into next weekend’s South Carolina High School League State Wrestling Championships. the two-day event will begin next Friday night and be contested at the Anderson Civic Center.
