Military Briefs: Army Pfc. McKenzie graduates from basic combat training

Army Pfc. Cameron J. McKenzie has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, McKenzie studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

McKenzie is the son of Walter McKenzie of Lugoff and is a 2012 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Devin D. Wright has graduated from the A-10 Attack Aircraft Avionics Control Systems course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

The course is designed to train airmen to inspect, operate, service, and maintain on-board avionics equipment by using proper controls and displays to determine operational condition; interpret equipment operation characteristics to isolate malfunctions in systems such as attack control, instrument, flight control, communication, navigation, identification, target penetration aids, weapons delivery and boresight systems, and night vision goggles; and remove, replace and perform operational checks of external mounted avionic and electronic countermeasures equipment.

Wright is a drone avionics technician assigned to the 82nd Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. The airman first class has served in the military for one year.

He is the son of Judith Carol Wright of Cooper Street, Camden, and a 2011 Lugoff-Elgin High School graduate.

Air Force Airman Christopher J. Johnson graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Johnson completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Johnson is the son of Nikia Johnson of Elgin.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Taylor A. Bourgoin graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Bourgoin completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bourgoin is the daughter of Phillip and Sheila Bourgoin of Lugoff and granddaughter of Sally Bourgoin of Elgin.

She is a 2009 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School, Lugoff.

Carolina is the son of Chaundra Carolina of Elgin.

Army Pvt. Eric D. Robinson Jr. has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, Robinson received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Robinson is the son of Marsha James of Clay Road, Camden.

He is a 2009 graduate of Camden High School.

Army Pfc. Jarrell R. Hayes has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, Hayes studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Hayes is the son of Jean Hayes and Gerald Fletcher, both of Camden.

He is a 2005 graduate of Camden High School.

Air Force Airman Calvin J. Green graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Green completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Green is the son of Karen Kennedy of Elgin.

Air Force Reserve Airman Demetrius J. Jones graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Jones completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Jones is the son of Eric Jones of Camden.

Navy Seaman Shawn D. Greenlief, son of Robert W. Greenlief of Lugoff, recently reported for duty at Navy Recruiting District, San Diego, Calif.

During the eight-week program, Greenlief completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. "Battle Stations" is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ‘’Navy’’ flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.

Greenlief is a 2013 graduate of Lugoff-Elgin High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Bryan E. Schaffer, son of Steven E. Schaffer of Dalzell, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight-week program, Schaffer completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Stoney is the son of Shelia Brisbon and grandson of Inez Stoney, both of Lugoff.

Air Force Airman Brandon E. Hagler graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

Hagler completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Hagler earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is the son of Demetria Thomas of Elgin.
