King Haiglar Garden Club March meeting

The King Haiglar Garden Club will meet on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Mary Acken, Nancy Wylie and Carolyn McKittrick will provide refreshments. The meeting will be held at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County in the Performing Arts Wing.

A wonderful program on pruning will be presented by David Joseph. Joseph is a landscape professional well known to all in Camden. Members are encouraged to bring their husbands or guests to this educational event.

The arrangement theme for March is "Clipping to Perfection." Horticulture specimens and arrangements need to be in place by 3:15 p.m. for judging. Judges this month are Cathy Moss, Ellen Vaughn, Judy Smith and Harriett Thomas. March garden maintenance volunteers are Margie Lane and Nancy Fisher. The King Haiglar Garden Club continues to plant and maintain gardens at Camden’s public buildings.

March Garden Tips:

• Plant tender bulbs and tubers such as gladiola, lilies and dahlias.

• Fertilize spring flowering bulbs after flowering. Use 5-10-10 or 6-12-12 per 100 sq. ft.

• Change the oil in lawn mower and sharpen blades.

• Fertilize established roses.

Flower of the month is daffodil. Critter of the month is termite. Herb of the month is curly parsley. Vegetable of the month is leeks.
