L-E’S ALLEN JENERETTE PINNED his opponent in the heavyweight division consolation finals to put the Demons over the top in winning last weekend’s Bearcat Invitational at Rock Hill High School.

Getting three individual championships was nice, but it was a win in the consolation finals which provided the icing on the cake for the Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team which captured last weekend’s 31st annual Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Rock Hill High School.

Battling North Carolina’s  J.M. Robinson High School for the title, L-E sophomore  Allen Jenerette pinned Olympic's (N.C.) Redd Hickson to take third place in the heavyweight division consolation finals --- in the final match of the evening --- which helped give the Demons their 253-point total. J.M. Robinson was second with 249.5 points.

Evan Moxie’s troops received championship performances in three straight weight divisions. The first of the trio came at 171 pounds in which L-E senior Will Connell pinned Mike Clevenger of Boiling Springs in the finals. At 189 pounds, Connell’s younger brother, junior Zach, won by decision over Jonathan Schavey of Rock Hill for the crown.

Demon senior Theo Shepard gave the Demons a hat trick when he put his Lancaster opponent on his back to win at 215 pounds.

L-E received a second-place finish from junior 135-pounder Alonzo Grant.  Seniors Tony Murphy (125) and Parker Singleton (145) both finished third while junior David Osteen took fourth place at 140 pounds.

The Demons are scheduled to host Irmo in a Region 4-4A pairing tonight in a 7 p.m. start inside the Demons Den. It will be the team’s only action this week.
