Doing all its damage in the opening two frames, Camden Military Academy jumped to a 9-2 lead over visiting North Central and would hang on for a 9-7 win over the Knights on Wednesday afternoon.
CMA scored four runs in the first inning and added five more in the home half of the second to answer an NC pair in the top of the first. The Knights made this one interesting by scoring once in third and fifth frames and three times in the sixth to pull to within two runs.
Griff Beckham’s Spartans sent out Casey Dyer to the mound and he worked 3.2 innings with five strikeouts before giving way to Eric Stromme who fanned four NC batters.
Broderick Gaither and John Bowers shared the pitching chores for the hosts with Gaither collecting four strikeouts in three innings of work.
Dyer led the CMA offense with two of the hosts’ seven hits while Ian Benton and Matt Fullen drove home two runs each for the winners.
Bowers paced the Knights’ offense with two hits while driving in a run while Chase Stephens had two of the guests’ seven hits on the afternoon. Tyler Bowers had a hit and an RBI in the victory.
