A few minutes before Tuesday’s match with rival Camden, Lugoff-Elgin golf coach Mike Robinson went up to one of his players and gave him a pep talk as to what he expected out of him that day.
Whatever Robinson said worked as the Demons, with three college-bound players, did not turn a card in with a score higher than 43 to breeze past the Bulldogs, 154-183, on a sunny afternoon at the Camden Country Club.
L-E senior Trevor Johnston was medalist for the nine-hole event with an even-par 35. Camden junior Will Hicks was next with a 1-over 36.
The Demons (1-0) had the next five lowest scores including Chandler Waters’ 39. After that came a pair of 40s from Brandon Hill and Jake Baker. Kelli Murphy and Ty Morgan were next with a pair of 43s.
After Hicks, CHS’ (1-2) lowest score was posted by Michael Gaskins who shot a 44. Three Bulldogs --- Jacob Kersey (51), Brett Halsall (52) and Nate Rushing (58) --- rounded out the scoring for Matt McCarley’s charges.
