One night after having used four pitchers in a conference loss to Pelion, the North Central baseball team saw the effects of a weary mound staff in a 19-9 loss to visiting Andrew Jackson on Wednesday.
The game was originally slated to be played on Monday in Kershaw, but that day’s rains forced the contest to be pushed back two days and the site moved to Boonetown as the NC field was dry and playable.
The Knights answered a two-run top of the first by the Volunteers by scoring eight runs in the home half of the frame. NC would then take a 9-7 lead with a run in the second after AJ scored five times in the top of the second.
The Volunteers scored three more runs in the fourth, six in the sixth and three more in the seventh to extend their lead to 10 runs.
AJ scored 19 times on 15 hits while the Knights had eight hits in the loss.
Trey Rollings worked five frames for the visitors and had nine strikeouts in picking up the mound win. He also had a five-hit night.
Broderick Gaither collected three hits and three RBI for Robbie Cash’s troops.
The Knights return to Region 3-AA action tonight when they travel to Eau Claire for a 6 p.m. start.
Bulldogs postponed again: After Camden had its Region 4-AAA game at Dreher on Tuesday postponed to Wednesday, the Blue Devils’ home field was still unplayable one day later, forcing the make-up game to be pushed back to being played on Wednesday, April 23 in Columbia.
Tonight, the Bulldogs will return home to host Westwood in a 6:30 p.m. start at American Legion Park in Camden.
