Eloise Bradham

Dr. Eloise Adcock Bradham, of Columbia, died Sunday morning, September 19, 2010. Her children were by her side.

Dr. Bradham was the daughter of the late Dr. David F. Adcock and Mrs. Eloise Daniel Adcock. Dr. Bradham was born in Columbia and attended Dreher High School. She was a 1955 graduate of the University of South Carolina and received her medical doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 1959. She trained in anesthesiology in St. Louis, Missouri, and Charleston, S.C. She returned to Columbia and practiced anesthesiology at Moncrief Army Hospital in Columbia and Kershaw Memorial Hospital in Camden. In 1996 she was elected the first female president of the Columbia Medical Society (C.M.S.), following in the footsteps of her father, a former president of the C.M.S. She later worked for S.C. Vocational  Rehabilitation. Even after retiring from practice, Dr. Bradham remained very active in medicine and, until last year, was actively volunteering at the Columbia Free Medical Clinic. She was also an active and faithful member of Shandon United Methodist Church.

Dr. Bradham is survived by her children, Dr. Eloise D. Bradham, Dr. William S. Bradham Jr. and Mr. David W. Bradham; brother, Dr. David F. Adcock; sister, Mrs. Jane A. Shealey; seven grandchildren.

A visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening, September 21, 2010, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A private graveside service for family will be held Wednesday morning, followed by a celebration of her life at 1 p.m. at Shandon United Methodist Church.
