Julian Burns, a Kershaw County native, filed for election Monday for the June 10 Republican Primary for chairman of Kershaw County Council.

“We need to grow and move forward from the tremendous progress made under Gene Wise,” Burns said. “And, there is much more to do to grow our communities and businesses for our neighbors, our children and future generations.”

Burns said highlights of his goals are to:

• build upon his extensive leadership in business and as an Army major general (USA, ret.);

• work with the county team, our great Kershaw County work force, and with the leaders of the county and communities to build and to grow jobs, our economy, and tax base;

• manage our tax dollars efficiently; and

• stand for the security and welfare of our citizens as a great place to live and to raise and educate our children.

Burns registered as a Republican candidate for county council chair.

A native son of Kershaw County and graduate of Camden High, with a bachelors degree from West Point and a masters from the University of Southern California, Burns said he has a formidable record of achievement and leadership in business and the U.S. Army at home and abroad.

Burns is a volunteer in the community and church. He owns a Camden-based business in farming and consulting. He returned to the county after 10 years in corporate business, and after three decades of service in the U.S. Army, retiring as a major general. He has published several books and serves on the boards of a Christian mission, several small businesses and several national museums.

Burns and his wife, Ruth Ann, reside in Camden. They have three children, two of whom serve in the Department of Defense, and a third daughter, Joan, in Columbia.
