If you are going to split a pair of games in one week, you want to win the one that counts.
After having dropped a 13-0 decision against Buford in a non-conference game last Monday, the North Central softball team closed the week with a 13-3 win over Fairfield Central in a Region 3-AA contest played on Thursday in Boonetown.
The week ended with Mike Grigsby’s squad improving to 3-1 in conference play and 3-4 overall.
Friday’s win over the Griffins kept the Lady Knights on the heels of league-leading Pelion. NC used another strong pitching performance from Erin Humphries who gave up five hits and struck out seven to keep the guests at bay.  Offensively, the Lady Knights were led by Alexis Baker, Maranda McCaskill, Lexy McCain and Humphries who all had multiple hits and drove in the runs needed by North Central to win the game.
In the loss to Buford, NC had opportunities early on, with the game still in doubt, but a five-run bottom of the sixth assured North Central would not come from behind.
