The Cheer Invasion All-stars (CIA) invaded Myrtle Beach last weekend! CIA, the competitive cheer team from Spirit Athletics in Lugoff, attended a National cheerleading competition in Myrtle Beach, March 21-23. All four of Spirit Athletics’ teams came home with a national title.

Spirit Athletics opened in May 2012. This is only its second season in competitive cheer, so winning a national title was a huge accomplishment for these young athletes. Currently, the school’s four cheer teams consist of 78 athletes from Lugoff, Camden, Elgin and surrounding areas. Athletes range in age from 5-18 years old. In addition to competitive cheerleading for all ages and levels, Spirit Athletics offers recreational cheer classes, recreational gymnastics classes, tumbling, classes for school cheer teams, after-school care and summer care/camp programs. Spirit Athletics is located on Dewitt Drive in Lugoff, and owned by Jennifer Brazell of Lugoff and Stephanie Roof of Columbia.

"We are very proud of our athletes. They train very hard, practicing two to three times per week, all while juggling school work, as well as other sports and commitments. To attend a national competition and compete with teams from all over, and perform so well, bringing home four national titles to the Lugoff/Camden area is amazing. We feel honored to work with athletes from this area, and blessed to be a part of this community. We would also like to thank our sponsors, local businesses that help make competing at this level possible," Brazell said.

Tryouts for next season will be May 6-8. To learn more about Spirit Athletics and CIA, visit their website at, or call 713-7331.
