If you get mesmerized watching skilled blacksmiths work the forge, then plan to stop by Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. At the site’s traditional forge and assorted portable forges, will be members of the Philip Simmons Artist-Blacksmith Guild of South Carolina.

The Guild, named after the famous Charleston blacksmith, Philip Simmons, is hosting a free three-day class for its members to learn how to make hand-wrought leaves and flowers from Guild blacksmith, Mike Tucker of Tucker’s Forge in Sumter (www.tuckersforge.com). Tucker has been practicing what he calls "this complex art" since the 1990s.

He wields a mean hammer making hand-forged knives and utilitarian pieces but he prefers and is known for his talent in creating decorative pieces. The Guild continues to serve its mission to encourage aspiring smiths and expose the art of blacksmithing to the public, so blacksmith aficionados and folks of all ages, may come watch pieces of "5/8 inch square stock" be crafted into things of beauty before their eyes. For information, call 432-9841or visit www.historic-camden.net. Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site is located at 222 Broad St., in Camden.
