Middle school students looking for something fun to do this summer will have an opportunity June 9 and 10 as the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) hosts its annual summer camp.

The camp will give fifth through eighth grade students the chance to spend time exploring a variety of ATEC programs and create projects to take home with them at the end of the two-day event.

The camp will operate from 8 a.m. to noon both days and includes a snack. Space is limited and registration is $10. Transportation must be arranged by the family of the participating student.

According to ATEC Director Chet Horton, campers will be able to choose four ATEC programs and spend about one hour and 40 minutes with each instructor who will supervise a project-based activity.

Programs featured this summer are agriculture, automotive collision repair, commercial art, culinary arts, graphics, personal computer repair and welding.

“Our goal is not only for this camp to be fun for the students, but to also expose them to a few of the programs ATEC has to offer,” Horton said. “Hopefully, when they are eligible to attend ATEC in the 10th grade, they will be familiar with our campus and will want to pursue one of our programs as a possible career interest.”

Registration is required to attend the camp. Applications are available at ATEC, each of the county’s middle schools and online at http://atec.kcsdschools.com. Applications and the $10 registration fee are due to ATEC by May 23. Incomplete applications will not be considered and the registration fee is non-refundable.
