Tournament officials were hoping that Tuesday’s weather would not throw a crimp into the Kershaw-Richland Wooden Bat Classic at American Legion Park in Camden.
Camden High head coach Denny Beckley was hopeful that Tuesday’s slate of games would be played and as of press time on Tuesday, no alternate plans had been made.
As for today’s third round of the Camden portion of the event, the South Florence and Westwood junior varsity teams will play at noon with the Lower Richland versus South Florence varsity contest set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
At 5 p.m., the Camden and Lugoff-Elgin junior varsity teams will close out their seasons when the two sides meet. The 7:30 p.m. contest will have the varsity teams from the two rival schools meeting for the third time this season.
For the first time this season, both the Bulldogs and Demons will have their aces toeing the rubber with Camden sending out senior lefty Grey Hoke and L-E expected to hand the ball to its senior right-hander, Zac Bowers. The last time these two met, it was the Demons coming away with a 1-0 win in this tournament with Hoke allowing just one hit while Bowers surrendered four.
The tournament concludes Thursday at American Legion Park with the fourth-place finisher from the Camden site meeting the fourth-place finisher from the Richland Northeast site at 11 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., the third-place finishers will meet.
The skills competition, with players from all teams takes place at 3:30 p.m. followed by the game between the two second-place teams at 4:30 p.m.
The championship game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
