A Lugoff man was arrested Wednesday, April 9 after Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies found equipment and supplies used to manufacture methamphetamine at his home. A KCSO report said Michael Dean Thompson, 25, 1759 Baughman Road was taken into custody after deputies paid a visit to the home after receiving information that Thompson had been making excessive purchases of pseudoephedrine, an over-the-counter cold remedy used to make methamphetamine. The report said deputies found plastic drink bottles with methamphetamine waste in the yard and in a burn barrel. The home is reportedly owned by Thompson’s relatives who live nearby and they gave officers permission to enter and search the home. The report said more evidence of methamphetamine making and heroin use was found in the house.

The KCSO was called to a Lugoff auto dealership Sunday after $8,000 worth of wheels and tires were apparently stolen from two vehicles. The KCSO report said a customer was on the lot looking at trucks when he found a Toyota Tundra sitting on blocks with the wheels and tires removed. The report also listed a Toyota Avalon with the wheels and tires gone.

A Camden man reported his 2003 Ford Explorer stolen Thursday. A KCSO report said the $3,000 vehicle was taken from the front yard of his Geno Branch Road home. The victim reportedly told deputies he thought the vehicle could be in the "Little Egypt" or "Browntown" areas in Lee County, as he had been there recently and subjects there had admired the Explorer’s sound system.

The KCSO also reported 15 thefts, 10 arrests for possession of marijuana, eight assaults, six vandalisms, five burglaries, five cases of criminal domestic violence, three driving under the influence arrests, three reports of harassment, and one each of driving under suspension, public disorderly conduct, forgery, child neglect/abuse and one missing cow.

The Camden Police Department reported seven shopliftings, three arrests for driving under the influence, three arrests for no driver’s license, two cases each of malicious injury to personal property, driving under suspension, vandalism and assault and one case each of obtaining medications under false pretenses, criminal domestic violence, resisting or interfering with an officer, harassment, burglary, sale of beer to an underage buyer, open container and one trespass notice issued.

Incident reports are provided by the Camden Police Department and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and are a matter of public record under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act. If the C-I makes a mistake, it will correct it upon verification with the appropriate law enforcement agency. Readers are cautioned that other individuals may have similar or identical names as those contained in incident reports. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
