Longtime Camden resident Reid Buckley died Monday night in a Columbia hospital, only days after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer.

Buckley, 83, was an author, speaker and lecturer. He was founder of The Buckley School of Public Speaking, which has operated in Camden since 1988. More than 6,000 business executives, professionals and entrepreneurs have gone through the school’s rigorous three-day seminar.

Buckley, a champion debater during his days at Yale, was the author of many books, including "An American Family: The Buckleys," published in 2008, which focused largely on his father, William F. Buckley Sr.

Arrangements, which are being handled by Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, are incomplete.

A more detailed story on Buckley will appear in Friday’s Chronicle-Independent.
