The regularly scheduled meeting of the Camden City Council set for tomorrow evening has been cancelled. Council will still have the scheduled work session meeting at 4 p.m.

Mayor Tony Scully said he and the council were told the meeting was called off by the city staff because there were no "action items" on the agenda that would require council votes. That was confirmed by Caitlin Corbett, administrative assistant to City Manager Mel Pearson, who was on vacation when the cancellation was announced.

The work session agenda has a presentation by Tim Hardy of Carolina Central Techincal College and Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter. Allen Roberts, chairman of the Historic Landmarks Committee is also scheduled to speak and give an informational handout to council.

Camden Fire Department Chief John Bowers will tell council about the "Right Alarm. Right Location. Right Action" campaign happening this week in the Kirkwood neighborhood. The program is a joint project with the S.C. State Fire Marshal’s office and provides free smoke detectors and fire safety information to residents. See a separate story on the campaign in this issue of The Chronicle-Independent.

Camden Police Chief Joe Floyd will announce more awards recently received by his officers and Pearson will announce the city has received a Parks and Recreation Development grant for upgrades at Edgewood Park.

The meeting will be in the council chambers at City Hall, 1000 Lyttleton Street.
