Fairfield Central spoiled North Central’s chance of playing for the Region 3-AA softball title as the host Griffins handed the Lady Knights a 7-6 loss in Monday’s conference finale.
The loss evened the season series between the two sides as North Central won the first meeting, 13-3.
The defeat left NCHS with an 8-2 league mark, good for second place behind once-beaten Pelion. The Lady Knights will still host a first round AA state tournament home game on Thursday, May 1.
The week before spring break provided Mike Grigsby’s girls three easy victories.  The Lady Knights beat Eau Claire and Columbia High to remain tied for the region lead.
On Thursday, the Lady Knights will host Senior Knight 2014 with a game against McBee at 6 p.m.  Jo Phillips, Lexy McCain and Taylor Covington will be recognized for their play which has helped North Central become a force in our region the last two years.
On Friday, Buford comes to Boonetown for the regular season finale for the Lady Knights.  Buford has been rated in the top 10 in class AA for most of the season. This game also has a 6 p.m. start.
