The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the Camden Community Theatre (CCT) bring you the highly anticipated BARK! The Musical, a howlingly funny production directed by Jami Steele, the FAC’s new Education/Theatre Director. The production will run May 1 - 4 in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military. BARK! The Musical is sponsored by Powers Funeral Home. The play is dedicated to the memory of Judith Anne "Judy" Firestone Thiel, a longtime animal lover and staunch supporter of the Walker M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

Earlier in the year, the FAC held a photo contest to choose the "poster dog" for the production. After a very successful online voting campaign, the winner, Cajun was selected the winner out of 20 eligible dogs. Cajun is a 5-year-old male Golden retriever. He is owned by Suzi Gatipon of Camden. According to Gatipon, "Cajun is such a fun dog. He loves obedience competition, going for long walks and hunting in the field."

The cast of BARK! The Musical includes Sydney Hough as Rocks, Scott Jordan as King, Karyn Minor as Chanel, Robin Saviola as Boo, Cecilia Stevenson as Golde and Allen Upchurch as Sam. The ensemble for BARK! includes Lynne Summers, Gina Calvert and Renne Jordan. Bryant Herring provides support to the entire cast and crew as stage manager. To read about the cast visit the FAC website at www.fineartscenter.org.

BARK!

Young and old, men and women, children of all ages and the young at heart all find an emotional connection with BARK! Howlingly funny, fast-paced and sometimes poignant, BARK! is the new must-see American musical. BARK! was created, produced and composed by David Troy Francis. Book and lyrics are by Mark Winkler, Gavin Geoffrey Dillard and Robert Schrock. Some of theatre’s most influential publications such as Variety have described it as "Always entertaining, down-right inspiring," and Jerry Herman, Composer of La Cage aux Folles, Hello, Dolly!, Mack & Mabel, Mame and more said of the production, "I love these marvelous melodic mutts…go!" BARK! The Musical was Asheville Community Theatre’s most successful production to date, and successful productions have been produced nationwide in states such as Washington, California, Illinois and Alaska, as well as so far as Brazil.

During the week of the production, the FAC will have a donation box set up in the lobby of the Wood Auditorium to collect items for the Walter Crowe Animal Shelter. Drop off hours for items are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and the weekend of the show. A list of needs can be found on the FAC website at www.fineartscenter.org.

Be sure to catch a "preview" of BARK! at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the Kershaw County Farmers Market prior to the Jazz at the Center performance by the Camden Middle School Jazz Band.

Advance tickets are available at the FAC, 810 Lyttleton Street in Camden, 425-7676, ext. 300; or online at www.fineartscenter.org.

The FAC is funded in part by the Frederick S. Upton Foundation and the South Carolina Arts Commission, which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. follows six canine characters for one day at Deena's Doggie Daycare. From the little puppy who yearns to bark like a real dog, to the opera singing poodle and the street mutt who raps -- this musical possesses the huge heart and the playful joyfulness present in man's truest friends. The entire show is presented from a dog's point of view.
