The South Carolina High School League state baseball playoffs open for Lugoff-Elgin and North Central with the 4A and AA tourneys kicking off Thursday with Camden beginning AAA postseason action on Friday night.
Here are the possible scenarios for the three county entries:
Camden: With a with over Lower Richland tonight at American Legion Park, the Bulldogs will be the second seed from Region 4-AAA thanks to their win over conference champion A.C. Flora, which is the first tie-breaker should Camden and Chapin both finish with identical 9-3 league marks.
A second place finish has Denny Beckley and company hosting the third-place finisher from Region 3, which looks to be Chester, Clinton or Woodruff, on Friday night at American Legion Park. The anticipated top seed in District I is the Region 2 champion. Greenville was leading that league last week.
Lugoff-Elgin: The Demons closed the regular season with an 8-3 win over Irmo on Friday to finish play in Region 4-AAA with a 5-5 record. That left Randy Stokes’ charges in third place and headed to the Lower State District VI.
L-E will travel to meet the Region 8 runner-up and as of Friday, that looked to be Summerville which was a game behind Ashley Ridge in the Lowcountry league.  The Region 6 champion, which looks to be Sumter, is the top seed in the district tourney.
North Central: The Knights were the only county team which knew its playoff destination by last Friday.
A loss to Fairfield Central last Tuesday left Robbie Cash’s squad in third place in Region 3-AA and they will head to play Buford in Tuesday’s AA Upper State opener. That game will have a 7 p.m. start. The top half of the District III bracket has Region 3 champion Pelion hosting Indian Land, the fourth-place finisher from Region 4.
