In June 1994, I was appointed as a Kershaw County Magistrate. I began working in the office with Gene Hartis, who was the chief magistrate for Kershaw County. I found out very quickly that Gene Hartis was a person that was well respected by others who worked in the office and he was easy to get along with. This was also true of those that came before him -- no matter which side of the law they were on -- he treated all of them with the utmost respect and dignity.

I was proud to work in an office that was run so efficiently and smoothly, all pulling together to make it happen.

Judge Hartis showed great concern and compassion when one experienced illness or tragedy in one’s family.

Judge Hartis has a master’s degree in business and also 28 years of experience in the operation of an office that is part of Kershaw County. He has attended hundreds of county council meetings, making him well aware of the workings of the county government process.

I worked for a company 33 years prior to becoming a magistrate, where I really enjoyed working with people, but the 12 years that I worked as a magistrate with Judge Hartis were the most enjoyable of my working career.

I am voting for Gene Hartis for county council chairman and urge others to vote for him. He is the most qualified for this position.
